You might have noticed that we at Newmerica Films have turned to the social web in these months leading up to A Crosstown Classic Story’s late summer release.

We created accounts on YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo and MySpace. We posted the link to a trailer on local Chicago baseball blogs. And in the crowd’s typically entertaining way, the people have gotten wild.

The trailer’s been praised and poo-pooed. We’ve gotten feedback as pithy as, “I’m pretty sure I have better editing skills than this,” or as spirited as, “Hell yea we beat those Sox today!”

The fine folks at Bleed Cubbie Blue even booted us from their forum, accusing us of “pimping” our film. (In response we say…true. We solicited opinions from readers of Bleed Cubbie Blue to make the final release awesome. We asked what you thought so we could give it to you in the end. We’re reworking it, we’re shedding some sweat, we won’t fail. Cubs fans take note: that’s how you make a better product.)

Ultimately the best solution lay in our own hands. On our server.

So here. We present to you, Chicago baseball fans, the Crosstown Classic blog.

We’ll be posting weekly segments from the 30+ hours of footage that didn’t make it into the film. And from the 30+ minutes that did: Short clips, outtakes, more trailers…

If you’ve seen it in the parking lots, bars and on the streets, we’ve probably got it somewhere.  Post a comment, tell us what you want, and we’ll see what we’ve got in the kitchen. Then we’ll bring it out.
